MUUV People: Pam Arriola

5th IN OUR SERIES

Pam is a special part of MUUV and the history of Deep Dance Experience. Learn more about Pam and her love of dance in the story below; in her own words.

Dance has been a part of my life since I was three-years old. I have participated in and enjoyed watching many forms of dance throughout my life. Unfortunately out of college, career pursuits left little time for dance. It was still a small part but only as a fill-in coach for a high school dance team. When I finally found time for myself again, dance was one of the things I went to first. That’s when I found Kris in Eagle and started going to her dance classes. Now I can’t stop, and am still dancing with Kris at MUUV just like I have been for the last 7+ years!

I started at age three taking ballet classes. I was a serious ballet student with a few tap classes thrown in for eight years. That career ended when I fractured my femur at age eleven. Although I was disappointed, I would not have had a serious career in ballet, as I had always been told I was too tall to be a professional ballet dancer, if only Trey McIntyre had been around! I began taking jazz class and some modern dance which I always did on the side. In school I was an athlete, participating in many different sports, cross-country, volleyball, basketball, track and softball. Not many people knew of my dance background and many of my friends were surprised to learn that I had auditioned and was accepted as a member of the Boise State Main Line dance team.

I now spend most of my time with my two children, daughter Brooklyn (7) and son Gus (5). Brooklyn is following in mom’s footsteps and started dance at age two. Last year she was awarded a five year trophy from her dance studio! Gus loves to dance as well. On a recent day together he said, “Mama, crank up the music! I need to dance!” He proceeded to dance and show me all of his cool break dance moves, it was awesome!

What I love about dance the most is everyone can do it. There really is no legitimate reason not to dance since you can dance anywhere! We've all see evidence of this driving in our cars and looking over to see the guy or girl in the car next you getting down! For me dance is the place to let go of whatever is troubling you. A place to be creative in knowing what the next move is because the music is guiding you. Dance is a place where many people can become one, all dancing to the same beat and doing the same move in unison. Or it can be a place where your deepest emotions can be let loose, with no one being the wiser! Viva la dance!
